Here's some press quotes from the critics about Department Store Girl

American TV shows that are meant to primarily attract a young audience, more and more serve the purpose of introducing new pop bands or reviving old ones. The is what The Rembrandts with "I'll Be There For You" from the show "Friends", The Tories with "Jessie" from the show with the same name, Nerf Herder with their title song to the show "Buffy" and last but not least the old men of Popwer-Pop-Rock, Cheap Trick, with their opening song to "That 70's Show" owe their success to.

The Rosenbergs got a similar increase in popularity after one of their songs was played on "Dawson's Creek". They didn't have to wait long to get a well-payed contract which allowed them to finally become pop stars after traveling around the club scene for ten years. Now they are finally playing in the same league as the big names like, Fountains Of Wayne, Material Issue, and The Posies and they sure deserve it. After all, they became an important part of pop over the years.

"Department Store Girl" shows how many ways there are to interpret "pop". The Rosenbergs present themselves as masters of good taste and lead us through their own little musical world in which much seems familiar and inviting.

Throughout the album their distinct love for the early 80's and its' pop-culture is noticeable. Besides classical power-pop as we know it from bands like The Plimsouls and Shoes, they also serve us slightly wave'ish synthie-pop in the style of The Cars but never forget to put their love for the bubblegum-pop of the 70s into some of their songs.

Over all their great songs floats a lush guitar sound that, bristling with power, leads the way through the wonderful pop-landscape of The Rosenbergs.

My definition of Power-Pop perfectly conforms with The Rosenbergs. A good feeling.

Although the Rosenbergs are probably doomed to forever be remembered as the band that left Farmclub.com standing at the altar, refusing to sign a contract for a television appearance (that would have also severely restricted the band’s future rights) that other bands would have given their drummer’s left arm for, they actually do put out an album every once in a while, too. With Department Store Girl, the group’s third, the Rosenbergs reposition themselves as purveyors of grandiose power-pop hooks, crunchy power chords, and highly glossed vocal harmonies that are as catchy as they are harmless. "Birds Of A Feather" and "Nighttime Lover" bounce merrily along like an over-inflated beach ball, while the title track and "Weekend (Meet Me, Hurry Up)" take aim at our guilty pleasures, with heavily layered vocals and danceable drumbeats taking the easiest route into listeners’ minds. The band hits its peak, however, with the rousing "Unperfect Love," a sincere rock ’n’ roll anthem that proves the Rosenbergs are more than just marshmallow glop and poofy pop songs, after all.

"I listened to it some more and the guitar tones are awesome ... that's what a fuckin' rock and roll guitar should sound like."
Keith Cartwright - Entertainment Today
