The Rosenbergs - Meet The Band - David Fagin - Diary

Everyone knows David's no stranger to controversy so we're a little hesitant to give him his own diary page, but, c'est la vie. On these pages you will find the inner workings of his brain. It's scarier than "Leprachaun". Read at your own risk.

benefit

played the auto show and the benefit for Planet Impact last week. Both shows were great. I forgot how much fun it was playing live...it's bean sooo long! Mariska Hargitay's a total sweetheart. We changed Crockett and Tubbs to 'Benson and Tubbs', since her character on Law and Order is Det. Benson. Some people, who shall remain nameless, had a bit too much to drink.

ruthies

the ruth girls come to town may 8 to sing the national anthem at shea stadium. The Mets are a much cooler bunch of folks than the yankees, unfortunately. After that, I got them a gig at Jacob's Field in Cleveland on Memorial Day singing for The Indians.

reviews

Entertainment Weekly just gave us a C+. Since I got mostly C's and D's in High School, I guess its a step up.

Saddam

Just a thought about the capture of Saddam Hussein:
Ya know when they found him in that hole? Unshaven, dirty and just a complete mess from living in that pit? I was surprised not one newspaper used the caption, "He looks like he crawled out from under Iraq."

ruthies

The Ruth Girls head to LA tomorrow to meet with 'The Matrix' about doing some songs. In case ya don't know, The Matrix did everything from Avril Levigne to Courtney's new record. Charlie Koppelman's involved now so it's only a matter of time before you're hearing their songs. I was quite impressed with myself as I booked them the national anthem's at both Kaufman Stadium for a Royals game (as they're in the midwest), as well as Shea Stadium, Saturday May 8, for The Mets. They do a version of the anthem that'll knock yer socks off.

friday

played for the staff at billboard yesterday. Got to hang out with Max Weinberg of the E street band which was awesome. He's a great guy. We talked about passover and his, Ringo's and Charlie Watts' crusade to elect Elvis' side men into the rock hall. Amazing that phone calls from three of rock music's greatest skins guys go unreturned. The rock hall's got quite a stick up its butt. Max said apparently when the Stones were inducted, they weren't gonna admit Ron Wood, and Mick and Keith said "No way". Same thing with The Dead. The Cricketts aren't in the hall but Buddy Holly is. Not fair.

monster

man. if charlize don't win the oscar, Hollywood should burn. I've never seen a portrayal of white trash sadness as well as that, ever.
And if Adam Sandler gets to make one more piece of shit Hollywood should burn.

Who's Next?

Man. Just watched the making of Who's Next for the second time. Incredible. The songs. The performances. The sounds.
Watching Daltrey with his reading glasses on, 30 years later, sitting at the console playing with the faders on 'Behind Blue Eyes', humming along, looking like 'Uncle Roger', is priceless. Seeing Townshend in his home studio demonstrate how he created the synth sounds for Baba O' Reilly and Won't Get Fooled is truly amazing. Pete then performs an incredible version of 'Fooled' as good as the electric one. There's a live shot of the band, in the middle of 'Fooled', when Moon's drum solo breaks the monotone looping of the keyboards, and Daltrey walks out of the lasers and screams that primal, angst filled, "YEAHHHHHHHHHH!" The film slows down as Townshend slides across the stage towards the camera lens, on his knees, whirling the windmill. To me, that picture captures the essence of rock at its finest. I have yet to see its equal.
Pete prophetically mentions, in his failed follow-up to Tommy, "Lifehouse", that in the future, music is banned. Rock music to be exact. And what is presented to the public is boring, mundane, lifeless, droning 'Muzak'. I couldn't agree more, Pete. The future is now..right, Simon?

susan

performed an acoustic set for the cats and chicks at susan blond today. They're great. Met Susan herself...she's a protege' of Andy Warhol so she gave me a bit of her history with him...wild. I sat in on her rabbi lessons and it was awesome. We learned about what really happened with the parting of the Red Sea. The rabbi said Jews are never satisfied. Even after all the miracles we witnessed, we were still non-believers...kinda like Yankee fans.
Looks like we'll be shooting a video for Crockett and Tubbs sometime in the next month.
What's a Jewish cat's favorite holiday?
Purrrrim.
ciao fer now.

oh my gosh

i just did an interview for radio america...oy vey. the woman I spoke with had no sense of humor whatsoever and self promoted her ex-husband and her own point of view. She couldn't care less what i was saying. I was interrupted sixty odd times.
To make matters worse, the freaking manhole cover that's been erupting every few days for the last two weeks right outside the apt., decides to blow up at exactly 2pm, creating wonderful background noises of wailing fire trucks, police cars and morons from con ed. Con Ed just killed my sister's friend, Jodi, last week. She was electricuted while walking her dogs. There was a story on the news last night about all the problems over there with unstable installations and the like, and then, presto!, the biggest explosion I've heard yet comes right at the top of the interview. Not that it mattered much as I could barely get a word in edgewise.

napster

When Seth Green came on Sesame Street a few weeks back, we spoke about Napster and all that is file sharing...I finally saw 'The Italian Job', an okay movie, in which Seth's character talks constantly about Napster...funny but weird. Guess they needed a wacky subplot.
